Your First Visit: What to Expect

Same-week appointments are usually available for new patients. Here is how getting started works, from your first call to your treatment plan.

What Happens at Your First Appointment?

Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation with a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. Your provider will ask about what brought you in, your symptoms, your health history, the medications you take, and your goals. There are no wrong answers. You don’t need to know what’s wrong before you come in, because sorting that out is what the first visit is for.

You will leave with a clear, personalized plan and a scheduled follow-up. Medication is recommended only when it is clinically appropriate, and only after you have talked it through together. Visits are available in person in Asheville or by telehealth across North Carolina.

What Makes Starting Easy

We keep the first steps simple and personal.

Insurance Up Front

We verify your coverage by phone before you book, and quote self-pay rates up front.

You’re a Partner in Care

We listen to you. We’ll work together to find what works and make adjustments along the way.

The Same Provider

You see the same provider at every visit, from your first evaluation onward.

Coordinated Care

We work with your therapist and other providers to support your overall wellness journey.

What to Bring to Your First Visit

A little preparation helps your provider understand the full picture and make the most of your time together.

Please bring or have ready:

  • Your insurance card: Plus a photo ID. If you plan to self-pay, let us know when you book.
  • Your medications: A list of everything you take now, including doses and supplements, and anything you have tried before.
  • Your history: Past diagnoses, hospital stays, or treatment, and any family history of mental health or substance use conditions.
  • Your care team: Contact details for your primary care provider or therapist, so we can coordinate your care.
  • Your questions: Write down anything you want to ask. Many people forget in the moment.
  • Your goals: What you want to feel or do differently. This shapes your treatment plan.
  • Not sure where to start? Call (828) 283-0367 and we will help you figure out the right next step.
